OUR COMMUNITY

Our community consists of other three clubs that the law students of Faculty of Law and International Relations (FLAIR), University of Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) may join, which are Asian Law Students Association (ALSA), Moot Club and International Law Students Association (ILSA).

Asian Law Students Association

The National Chapter ALSA Malaysia was officially founded in 2011 with the aims of promoting academic and cross-cultural exchanges between Asian law students. Today, it comprises of more than 1700 members from the established Local Chapters and Observers, which also includes ALSA UniSZA. Faculty of Law and International Relations (FLAIR), University of Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) is officially commenced in early 2007, one year after the establishment of Universiti Darul Iman Malaysia (UDM), later known as Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA). ALSA also known as Asian Law Students Association of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, our club strives to connect law students from the corners of Asia and aims to create bond between all of the students from various background, led by strong and bold leaders.

Benefits of Membership:

  • We will provide as many opportunities as possible by creating legal-related events throughout your involvement in our society which you will develop various types of soft skills. When you join us, you will not only gain confidence in public speaking, but you will also improve your arguments and thinking abilities.

  • You will learn how to work with a team and engage with diverse groups of people. Students under our society are not only those from a legal background, but it varies from different ages and backgrounds. Hence, this society will allow you to meet and socialize with other students who have the same interests and ambitions.

  • You will get networking opportunities to build many connections potentially profit your future graduate job after your studies. As you socialize with other students in this society, you will also have the opportunity to create a network with many legal professionals and academicians through the. In addition, attending these events will help you build a network with these people, alongside creating a valuable experience.

  • You will gain leadership skills by monitoring your job scopes and practicing your time management. In our society, we practice a system where anybody can be a leader; they wish to do in any legal related event. This is because we always make sure that every member gets the chance to build their leadership skills in collateral with our tagline, “ALSA Always Be One.”

  • By being an active member of our society, you will boost your Curriculum Vitae (CV) with a fantastic additional point to go along with your academic accomplishment. This is proof that you manage to tackle different challenges by handling vast responsibilities while balancing your studies, making you stand out as a graduate.

Moot Club

The UniSZA Moot Club has been actively operated since 2016. This club is dedicated to educating and training members in the art of moot court advocacy. Additionally, this club is committed to producing graduates who are not only engaged in the curriculum but also possess good interpersonal skills and interactions with their peers. "Sic Parvis Magna" means "great things begin with small things." In achieving great success in the nationwide competition, this club focused on creating an opportunity for the student to grow by organizing internal competition.

Benefits of Membership:

 

  • Can engage with and think deeply about interesting and topical legal issues.

  • Can enhance your advocacy, legal research and writing skills.

  • Can gain valuable Networking Opportunities from joining the competition.

  • Can work closely with and learn from your peers; and to demonstrate your interest in advocacy and competence as an advocate to prospective employers.

  • Most students find mooting to be intellectually rewarding and highly enjoyable. It can be nerve-racking and frustrating but it is a lot of fun.

International Law Students Association

Shortly after the first Jessup Competition, the idea of creating an organization to serve the needs of students interested in international law arose. In 1962, students from a number of campuses founded the Association of Students of International Law Societies. The Association evolved over the years, and in 1987, reconstituted itself as the International Law Students Association (ILSA). In May 1994, ILSA incorporated in response to its rapid expansion and development.

  • Free subscription to the ILSA Quarterly magazine and the opportunity for Chapter members to have their articles published in the Quarterly.

  • Discounted registration at ILSA international law conferences.

  • Opportunity to petition ILSA for funding to host international law events.

  • Information about Study Abroad and LL.M. Programs and other opportunities.

  • Information about current events in the international legal community.

  • Access to an international network of professionals, law students, materials, and resources to the field of international law.
